Tim O'Brien shares his story of what happened in 1968 when he got drafted to fight in the Vietnam war. Through this timeline of events, Tim leaves his parents, meets Elroy Berdahl, and undergoes huge character development. Thus, the archetypal lens is highly applicable to this story. I found five different archetypes which i will be stating down below Number 1 In the beginning of the short story, Tim displays the everyman character archetype. Tim just graduated from Macalester college and got accepted into Harvard. He just wants to pursue his career and live his life, not fight in a war. "In June of 1968, a month after graduating from Macalester College, I was drafted to fight a war" (O'Brien 13). Number 2 As the story progresses, Tim finally decides to take matters into his own hands and run away to Canada. This displays the ruler archetype. Tim leaves his parents a note and takes off to Canada ." I scribbled out a short note to my parents. What it said, exactIy, I don't recall now. Something vague. Taking off, will call, love Tim. I drove north." (O'Brien). Number 3
Tim arrives at old fishing resort called the Tip Top Lodge in Canada and meets Elroy Berdahl. Elroy acts as Tim's mentor and helps Tim and offers him exactly what he needs to cope. Thus, Elroy displays the Caregiver archetype. "He took me in. He was there at the critical time—a silent, watchful presence" (O'Brien). Number 4 On Tim's last full day at the Tip Top Lodge, Him and Elroy go Fishing on a boat. through this experience, Tim displays the explorer archetype. Tim says how he let his mind completely be free and focuses on the breeze in his face and the nature around him, like the berries on the trees and the squirrels in the forest. Also, he wonders about the lakes that he passed. He is aware and fully endorsed in nature and his travel. " just feeling the cold spray against my face, but then it occurred to me that at some point we must've passed into Canadian waters" (O'Brien). Number 5 In the end, Tim decides to go to war. His bravery and compassion display the hero archetype. Despite Tim's concerns, he still decides to go to war out of courage. "and then to Vietnam, where I was a soldier, and then home again. I survived, but it's not a happy ending. I was a coward. I went to the war. " (O'Brien).

We've all been in the same position as the girl in the photo above me. Essays can be extremely difficult to write which can cause a lot of stress. Have you ever wondered why essays are so difficult to write? I've narrowed down the three main reasons why essays are so difficult to write.
Firstly, coming up with a thesis is probably one of the most difficult steps in writing an essay. In order to create a thesis, the three main points need to be fully thought out. Writing a thesis requires the author to think and plan ahead . Even though it is only one or two sentences, those one or two sentences outline the entire essay which is why it is so stressful to write. Secondly, the analysis can be difficult to write in the essay. Since the writer has already made their point and proof, the analysis part seems to be quite self-explanatory. A lot of writers tend to feel like they are repeating themselves through this process. Since the analysis is the longest part of the paragraph, a lot of writers also feel like they do not have enough to say. This creates a lot of difficulty with writing the analysis. Lastly, the conclusion also is the last difficult part of the essay, Writing a conclusion can seem very repetitive and somewhat useless, which is why it is so literally difficult to write. It is infuriating for some writers to have to constantly repeat themselves while writing a conclusion. Some people try to spice up their conclusion to make it seem more interesting, which is very hard to do as well. "How do we make writing an essay easier?", you may ask. First, brainstorm your ideas. This will help you come up with a thesis statement. After you come up with your thesis, you can make your three body paragraphs. Start off with your point, then find proof and jot note the analysis. After this is completed, come up with a topic sentence for the three paragraphs. Topic sentences tend to be a broad introductory to the point, so don't be too specific. Lastly, come up with the general statements for the first sentence of the first paragraph and the last sentence in the conclusion. Lastly, show a teacher or friend the outline that was made. This is an important step because this can fix any mistakes before typing out the full essay. Ariana Grande's hit song " 7 Rings" was clearly inspired by the song featured in The Sound Of Music, "My Favorite Things". Ariana's song incorporates the exact same melody line, a similar beat and similar lyrics to Julie's song. Julie's lyrics: These are a few of my favorite things, Ariana's lyrics: "Buy myself all of my favorite things (Yeah) ".Despite the similarities, Ariana's did write this song in a different genre and has a different lyrical message. Is this borderline plagiarism? Did Ariana copy Julie's song? fHere are links to both of the songs:
https://youtu.be/33o32C0ogVM- Julie Andrew's "My Favorite Things", Video Release Date: April 10, 2010 https://youtu.be/QYh6mYIJG2Y- Ariana Grande " 7 Rings", Video Release Date: January 18, 2019 I believe Ariana's song is a rip off of Julie Andrew's song. Although Ariana did add some different, creative elements to her song, the amount of similarities overpowers the differences. This is more like a remix than a creative, original idea. I believe for a song to be considered creative, it should have its own set of lyrics, and an original melody/flow. There are only so many notes and keys to play songs in, so I believe it is okay if two songs have similar/ the same instrumentals. The plot of the podcast is derived around the exposure of the murder case against Adnan Syed, who is convicted for strangling his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee to death on January 15th 1999. Since this case took place in that time period, there were not many sufficient tools available for evidence. The people involved in the case had to recall information from 6 weeks prior, which is certainly hard to do. I can barely remember what i did last week! The narrator, Sarah Koenig is able to take us through her thought process while she unveils all of the aspects of this case and the justice system as a whole. Although this podcast is focusing on a merely bad situation, I frankly enjoyed it. The reason why i enjoyed this podcast so much is because of the fact that I am able to be apart of an ongoing narrative rather a basic news report. I like the fact that the narrator is talking to the audience rather than me having to reading it. It makes this story feel much more engaging. If I were to see a story like this pop up on the news on TV or in an article, I definitely would not be as engrossed as I am now. The message is conveyed completely different with a use of a different medium, which is the saying "The Medium is the Message" is completely true! This podcast allows for the audience to create their own truth with the information given. Although the narrator did seem to have some biased thoughts into the defence of Adnan, the audience is still able to come up with their own conclusion. Because of this, I feel as if the family of the victim may not be extremely pleased with this podcast. Due to this podcasts wide exposure, many people are defending the man to which the family believes took their daughters life! They be really displeased with how this played out 7/6/2020 Should grade 12 University level English be a requirement for entry into all university programs?Read Now
